Discipline and autonomy in learning

Colegio Americano de Guayaquil has been part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) community since 1985, becoming the first IB school on the Ecuadorian coast and one of the first in the entire country. As a pioneer institution in the implementation of the Diploma Programme, we have proudly led the way, serving as a model and support for other schools in Ecuador seeking to join this global educational network.

Our students not only excel in their IB Diploma results but also gain access to high-level academic opportunities abroad. Thanks to their performance, many obtain international scholarships and credit transfers at prestigious universities, opening the doors to higher education with a global competitive advantage.

TALENT BEYOND BORDERS

IB Diploma Programme students have earned scholarships at universities in the United States thanks to their academic excellence and outstanding performance.

The IB Learner Profile

The IB learner profile represents a set of essential attributes that form individuals of integrity, committed to their environment and to learning beyond the academic realm. Each IB program promotes the development of this profile, guiding students to respect themselves, others, and the world around them.

IB students are characterized by being: inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced, and reflective.

PYP
PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), designed for students aged 3 to 12, allows them to grow and develop to express their opinions, make choices, and take responsibility for their own learning.

The PYP offers a transdisciplinary, inquiry-based curricular framework that develops conceptual understanding. It is a student-centered educational approach for children between the ages of 3 and 12. The PYP is fueled by the best educational research and the experiences and thought leadership of IB World Schools. The PYP has evolved to become a global leader in future-focused education. This program exemplifies global best practices in education, as it responds to the challenges and seizes the opportunities presented to young learners in this constantly changing world.

The current Primary Years Programme (PYP) model places the IB Learner Profile at the center of the entire educational experience. Like all IB programs, the PYP aims to develop an international mindset in all students, which is achieved through inquiry into six transdisciplinary themes. Subject areas function as vehicles for exploring these big ideas that connect learning to the real world. Action and the Final Exhibition surround this core, representing the most authentic expression of inquiry-based learning and the culmination of the PYP process.

PYP EXHIBITION

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition is a culminating project where students work in teams to investigate a real-world problem, applying what they have learned throughout the program. It is an opportunity to demonstrate understanding, critical thinking, collaborative work, and impactful action. More than an event, it is an authentic display of how our students begin to transform the world from a young age.
