ALFABETIZACION

LITERACY CENTER ALLAN ROBERT REED

INSTITUTIONAL INFORMATION

– Colegio Americano de Guayaquil (Robert Allan Reed Adult Education Center).

 

– The center was founded in 1982 and the nursery in 1985.

 

– Formed by five brigades: Adult Education (Literacy / post-literacy / High School) Nursery and Learning Support.

CENTER PROJECT INFORMATION

-Works with adults and children.

– The extent is local.

– Participants 300 adults and 70 children (about 285 families).

– Communities and neighborhoods: 18

– Levels covering literacy, post-literacy, primary education, basic education and high school.

– The adults are organized into modules and courses.

– Each module / course has a minimum of fifteen people.

– The proposed National Basic Education Program for Youth and Adults is played.

– Methodology: active process of shared learning (experience, reflection, conceptualization and implementation) Yes I can to Module 1.

– MOE texts and print media are used mainly.

– The project lasts 10 months.

– The process begins with a diagnostic test to place them in the appropriate level and then focus on formative assessment is made.

– Taught in Spanish.

BRIGADES

– Adult Education Brigade.

– Learning Support Brigade.

– Nursery Brigade.

(112 brigade, 300 participants and 70 children)

TRAINING OF THE BRIGADE

-Stage one: Awareness and contextualization.

– Stage two: Basic Teacher Training.

– Stage Three: Monitoring and ongoing training.

BRIGADIERS WORK DAY

– Nursery Adult Education and Nutrition. Every Saturday, from 7.30am and from 07h45

– The school year is from the month of “May” to “January,” of the following year.

– We conclude with an open house that adults expose lessons learned, based on generative themes such as family violence, migration, teenage pregnancy, nutrition, etc.

ADULT AND YOUTH EDUCATION BRIGADE (2014 - 2016)

Participants from 14 to 75 years.

 

Three levels:

–  Literacy  : On the first level literacy and mathematics is taught.

– Post-Literacy : From the second to complete basic education Science and Social Studies are added.

– Diversified : From eighth grade English and Computer is included.

– For basic cycle: Curricular reform adapted.

– For High school: Adapted Modules.

ALFABETIZACION 3

NURSERY BRIGADE

Purpose: Caring for the children of the participants so that they can attend classes.

 70 children from one to seven years, assist who are provided with:

– Nutritious meals.

– Early stimulation.

– Readiness to reading and writing.

– Reinforcement: Language and Mathematics.

– Sport / Music / Theater.

– Medical care.

 

    ALFABETIZACION 5

BRIGADE SUPPORT TEACHING

– Coordinates its work with the brigade.

– It is responsible for monitoring assistance and use of teaching materials.

INFORMATION ON PARTICIPANTS

Enrollment:

– 300 adults is the average of the past five years

– The 74,66% are women and 25.34% men.

– Primary level: 28%

– Basic level: 57%

– School: 15%

Limitations for studying:

– Diseases (sight, hearing, gastrointestinal, heart disease, etc.).

– Work.

– Family problems.

 Places of origin and geographical location:

– Approximately 90% comes from Manabí (Paján and Jipijapa).

– They live in slums or invasions (Flor de Bastion, Bastion Popular, Mapasingue, Prosperina, Pancho Jácome, etc).

 Occupational level of adults:

– Women: Housekeepers / work in household chores.

– Men: Unemployed / underemployed (street sellers, traders).

 Problems of the communities of the participants:

– Sewerage.

– Drinking water.

– Legalization of land.

– Garbage.

– Gangs.

– Unemployment.

– Underemployment

PROGRAMME ACHIEVEMENTS

– Continuity of the project (32 years without interruption until 2014).

– Continuity of studies (The adults enrolled in high school).

– Strengthening of values such as responsibility and solidarity in the brigade.

– Strengthening self-esteem in adults.

NATIONAL LITERACY PROJECTIONS MEETING

– 2000: Exchange of experiences.

– 2001: Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogical Institutes and media.

– 2002: Candidate President of the Republic.

– 2003: Community Labor for an Ecuador that reads and writes (Rosa Maria Torres, Minister of Education).

– 2004: Candidates for Mayor of Guayaquil.

– 2008: First Regional Meeting on Literacy Teachers (Brigades of 7 provinces of the coast region taught to read and write).

– 2009: Second Regional Meeting of brigadiers / Module 4 (Brigades 7 provinces of the coast region who learned and finished the primary level).

FIRST PROMOTION OF BACCAURALETES

FEBRUARY 5, 2011

-19 young people and adults were incorporated as “Bachelors of the Republic”.

– Three of them started at Robert Allan Reed Center since first grade.
