The Guidance Department of the Colegio Americano de Guayaquil provides attentive service to the needs of all of its students from Preschool through Sixth Course. Its holistic program contributes to students’ acquisition of competitiveness in personal, social, academic and career development areas. This planning is evaluated and updated annually in its design and implementation. It permits the development and protects the individuality of the students and provides them with the abilities needed to relate effectively to their peers in school, at home and in the community. It fulfills four basic functions:
- Preventive: Foreseeing problems that could arise.
- Developmental: Developing skills and abilities to their full potential.
- Compensational or remedial: Providing alternatives to optimize students’ developement.
- Consulting: Offers parents and teaching staff the professional help necessary to carry out guiding actions.

- Accompaniment in life crisis situations.
- Resolution of group problems in large and small groups.
- Small group guidance.
- Derivation and coordination with external professionals, such as physicians, educational psychologists, speech therapists, and clinical psychologists, among others.
- Support systems for academic and behavioral follow-up.
- Provides information about specializations, universities and academic development in general.
- Curriculum with values and sex education programs, complemented with talks, round table discussions and panels for parents.
- Orientation and advice to families, individually or collectively, on topics related to the education and orientation of their children.
Mission
To provide a permanent service to the students where they will feel that they are listened to, respected and valued, which tries to clarify their worries, help them assume their responsibilities, and develop their potential, thus promoting better performance in life.
